Puzzling Plant Fossils and — Evolutionary Experimentation?

If someone gets a notion to saddle up and ride to the extreme northeast of the US, going on through Maine in a certain place will get them to the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Some fossilized plants were found there that paleontologists described as "enigmatic."

One reason for this wording is that they show an extreme amount of detail, which seems to be increasingly common among fossils nowadays. In addition, scientists were surprised at the complexity of the fossilized plants. Neither of these facts are surprising to creationists.

Yet again, secular paleontologists are assuming deep time and evolution, which in turn dictates the way they interpret evidence. Creationists have the same evidence, but presuppose recent creation and biblical truth in their interpretations (see "What is Really Seen from the Webb Telescope" for more about this). The evidence does not support uniformitarianism (slow 'n' gradual processes over time), but instead supports recent creation, plus rapid burial at the time of the Genesis Flood.

To refer to evolution, natural selection, and even science itself as a person is frequently used as a rhetorical device. However, Darwin's disciples often take this into animism or pantheism where evolution and natural selection are treated like entities, not figures of speech. Also, evolution is supposed to be without purpose, but teleology is getting inserted into evolutionism more and more. In this case, the complexity of the plants that were fossilized indicates to naturalists that evolution was experimenting. Their presuppositions are making their efforts at science...truly bizarre.

Pre-Flood plants were buried in Flood sediments and fossilized. Petrified trees are found in certain layers of Flood-deposited sedimentary rocks worldwide. Paleontologists often find fossilized leaves, twigs, or fern impressions, and it’s not uncommon to find such impressions looking very recent according, for example, to a research team associated with the National Science Foundation in Antarctica.

. . .

Creation scientists suggest the obvious: a massive flood about 4,500 years ago was the agent of this “as yet unknown” watery event. This would explain why the fossil plants look amazingly well-preserved.

Recently, scientists writing in Current Biology stated, “enigmatic fossil plants with three-dimensional, arborescent-growth architecture” were found in New Brunswick, Canada.

Research revealed there was nothing simple about these fossil plants.
