Why Atheists Despise the Genesis Flood

When unbelievers assault the Bible, God, Jesus, miracles, and so forth, they make attacking the first eleven chapters of Genesis a priority. Something I learned long ago is that they are likely to receive more resistance when railing against the Resurrection and so forth, but Genesis is foundational to the gospel message. Since Christians ceded science to secularists, embracing deep time and evolution, atheists have Churchian allies in bushwhacking biblical creationists and Genesis — and undermining biblical foundations.
It is interesting that people who claim to "lack belief" in God spend so much time being vindictive, abusive, and bigoted toward Christians. Their primary focus is the true God as explained in the Bible. Not Thor. Not the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. Not much time is spent on Islam, either. They hate God and suppress the truth (Romans 1:18-23). But why? I have a few reasons assembled from Scripture and my experiences. | |

The Flood Undermines Deep Time
Although scientists throughout the centuries believed in recent creation and the Flood, James Hutton and Charles Lyell were using fake science to establish uniformitarianism (slow and gradual processes; the present is the key to the past) and deep time. Lyell, educated as a lawyer, lied about Niagara Falls because the facts didn't fit his views.
Universal common ancestor evolution was not original with Charles Darwin. He was influence by the work of his grandfather Erasmus, but evolution was found in ancient Greek philosophies and is found in Hinduism as well. It has been rightly said that Charles reworked evolution and dressed it up in a lab coat. He went on that Beagle voyage and was reading Lyell's book, and deep time fit nicely with his own machinations.
Darwin needs those millions, even billions of years, for his version of evolution to supposedly happen. By providing geological evidence for the Flood, there is no deep time for evolution to occur. From there, inquiring people will need to consider what the evidence actually reveals: the Genesis Flood.
My suspicion is that this is the reason Dr. Andrew Snelling had to sue the government of the formerly United States so he could take seven stones from the Grand Canyon.
Refusing to Examine the Geological Evidence
Misotheists, especially those on social(ist) media, famously claim that there is no evidence for the Flood. However, when challenged to refute it scientifically, they light a shuck out of there. They refuse to examine material from creation scientists because of reasons and stuff. Very rational for lovers of science and reason, right? Actually, it's a use of the genetic fallacy to reject creation science because of the source.
Evidence does not "speak for itself", but must be interpreted. Secularists work from their deep-time naturalistic presuppositions. Biblical creationists have their own presuppositions based on the truth of the Bible. To assume that creationists are wrong because we do not work within an atheistic paradigm is irrational, and if someone is going to challenge us, they must be able to show scientific errors and also how we are inconsistent with our own worldview. They dislike letting us provide reasoned arguments from out perspective. Also, anti-creationists do not take into account how secularists tamper with evidence, suppress and ignore contrary facts, and so on in order to circle the wagons so they can protect their narrative.
The Flood tells of Judgments
Cognate on it for a bit. Old earthers and theistic evolutionists deny the Flood because it interferes with their unbiblical philosophies. It is even more important for misotheists to deny the global Genesis Flood (and all that is associated with it) because it not only destroys deep time and evolution, but reveals their own situation before Almighty God (Heb. 11:7).
The Flood was sent because mankind had become wicked (Gen. 6:11-12), but Noah and his family — eight people in all — were saved. The Ark is a foreshadowing of salvation in Christ. Jesus affirmed that Adam was real (Matt. 19:4), and Adam was in a genealogy of Jesus (Luke 3:38). Not only did Jesus affirm the judgment of the Flood and how people ignored the warnings, he likened it to the last days (Luke 17:26-27, 30). Peter spoke of Noah as a real person (2 Peter 2:5), and also compared the Flood to the coming Judgment by fire (2 Peter 3:5-7).
These things and others show why it is folly for professing Christians to deny recent creation and the Flood, since they are essentially saying that these people and others in the Bible are liars or wrong. So much for inerrancy, accuracy, trust — and even salvation!
It is my contention that not only are professing atheists suppressing the truth, they are terrified! Denial is a known psychological defense mechanism and can have a use to keep someone from being overwhelmed, but there comes a time when things must be faced. Atheists need to humble themselves, repent before Jesus, and they can experience the love of God and be adopted as his children (Rom. 8:15, John 1:12, Luke 24:4). Many professing Christians also need to humble themselves and repent of denying the authority of the Spirit and of Scripture.
