Explaining Fossil Dinosaur Eggs, Tracks, and More

Image
Theories, models, worldviews, and other things need to be internally consistent. Atheism fails in this regard and is unliveable, so  professing atheists (Rom. 1:18-19) have to stand on the biblical worldview. Likewise, believers in particles-to-paleontologist evolution often need to borrow from biblical creation science. A student who claimed to believe the Bible lost faith because of fossil dinosaur footprints. He couldn't imagine  a global Flood allowing for footprints. Problem is, he did not check for that internal consistency in creationist models, so he made assumptions instead of doing his homework. Dinosaur tracks at Jurassic Moenave Formation, US Geological Survey (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) I'll allow that it's still something to consider. A flood is a busy time, especially when it's global in scale. Checking on creation models of the Genesis Flood shows a specific model that does a good job of explaining tracks, eggs, scavenging (they

Secular Geologists Getting Closer to Creation Science?

Image
It bears repeating that everyone has the same evidence to work with; it is not uniformitarian evidence  in a cage match against creationist evidence . (This principle extends to other fields of science, of course.) It is the interpretations  of the evidence that are controversial — even within their fields. Worldviews drive the interpretations. The uniformitarian worldview adheres to slow and gradual processes over long periods of time. At least, it's supposed to, but we have seen that scientists invoke rapid catastrophic processes when they find it necessary. They are doing this more nowadays. Grand Canyon , Maxfield Parrish, 1902 People scoff at creation scientists as if they obtained their degrees at Billy Joe's Bible Church Academy and Bait Shop. Nope. They have legitimate degrees and have published scientific papers, and put a tremendous amount of work into their Genesis Flood models. It is interesting how some of the secular proposals have creationist leanings (some even

Garden of the Gods and the Genesis Flood

Image
If you ever find yourself out Colorado way and have a notion to take in some nature, then the city of Colorado Springs may be of interest. A place called Garden of the Gods is actually in the city limits. It is not a national park, and is free of charge. (Of course, the recreation area has some fees.) Look off yonder, you can see Pikes Peak! The signs and such will gladly tell you a passel of geology, but unfortunately it tells secular deep-time stories that get things wrong. Cathedral Spires at Garden of the Gods, Library of Congress / William Henry Jackson , 1905 If someone wanted to learn Genesis Flood geology, this would be a great place to start. There are some amazing layouts from all that sandstone. Something to note is a detail of which uniformitarianism cheerleaders on teh interwebs seem to be willingly ignorant: the Great Unconformity . Hundreds of millions of years (according to secular stories) are missing, and it is also seen in the Grand Canyon — and spans continents. Th

The Folly of a Tranquil Genesis Flood

Image
There are professing Christians that cannot accept the book of Genesis as written, so they insert huge amounts of time between the first two verses of Genesis , say that the creation account was a "framework" , and more. Why these jaspers feel the need to add atheistic interpretations of geology to the Word of God is baffling. It seems that some people grab onto practically anything, no matter how silly, if it makes them feel better. How about a Flood that did not disturb anything? No torrential waters, no flood deposition (which biblical creationists have abundantly documented), but it was tranquil . Leaf floating in water, Pexels / Mathias Reding The theological aspects of a tranquil Flood are easily dispensed by looking at both the Old and New Testaments. Let's consider the physical. Granted, there was not a passel of physics and hydrology back when the idea was proposed like we have today. Even so, it should have been laughed away. Such an amount of water leaving no m

Cave Formation and the Genesis Flood

Image
Speleology is the study of caves, but seems to be of lesser importance to geology as a whole. These holes come in many shapes and sizes. Secular geologists took the standard uniformitarian view that involves acidic water dripping down, but they are realizing that this view does not address observed evidence. Admittedly, there are several areas where creation science needs more experts and more robust explanations. One of these is speleology. There are a few creationists who explore and discuss caves, and one aspect of the history comes from a rather surprising source. "Church Organ" - Howe Caverns, Flickr / Shelby L. Bell ( CC BY 2.0 ) Exploring caves can be great fun, and being on an organized tour in some of the larger caves keeps people from wandering off and getting lost. Speleology is a younger discipline and based on the idea of water seeping down and carving out the caves. Studying caves began to be taken seriously in Romania. People didn't pay new ideas from the

Geological Dating Confused by Assumptions

Image
There are numerous problems with the standard version of geology. It is based on uniformitarianism (slow and gradual processes; the present is the key to the past), and observed facts do not fit their paradigm. Replying to a recent post about unconformities (a problem well known in secular geology), one jasper stated that unconformities are only a problem to people who do not understand geology. That is like the absurd, "People reject evolution because they do not understand it." Unfortunately, geology is tainted by a dedication to furnish millions of years so that evolution can happen. Creek in canyon, Pixnio / Maysam Yabandeh Charles Lyell sought to free the science of geology from Moses. Actually, secular geology needs a reformation to free the science from Darwin! Like biological evolution, secular geologists tap dance around observed problems in procedures, including dating methods. When necessary, secular geologists have appealed to catastrophic processes happening with

Defusing Cambrian Explosion Excuses, Part 1

Image
As discussed previously, the Cambrian Explosion is classified by secular scientists as happening over 10-25 million Darwin years. Animals with very different body plans are found, but there is no evidence of precursors . This has been a problem all the way back to Darwin, and evolutionists have been attempting to solve it ever since. There has been a great deal of recent news and noise by secularists presenting rescuing devices only to have them wither in the cold light of reason. Yes, some evolutionists want to cut through fake science. We have five articles, three today and two tomorrow, to consider. Diorama of the Burgess Shale Biota, Flickr / James St. John ( CC BY 2.0 ) Creationists know that the Cambrian Explosion is best explained by the Genesis Flood, but secularists reject that out of hand. Gotta have that naturalistic philosophy intact, you betcha! So we watch as evolutionists work on plans and others shoot them down. One was a speculation that the sudden increase in diversi

Whales in the Desert?

Image
When the word Egypt is mentioned, several things can come to mind: Arid conditions, the Nile River, sand, Moses, God humiliating Pharaoh, a passel of whales  — wait, what? Sure. Things change over time. Indeed, the Sahara itself was once a nice place to go swimming . Whales in the desert are not easily explained by uniformitarian dogma. Indeed, the Valley of the Whales signage uses the ludicrous “dies and sinks to the bottom” boilerplate story for fossilization. In this case there are numerous whales as well as other creatures. Wadi Al-Hitan (Whale Valley), WikiComm / Guy Debonnet ( CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO ) To have numerous well-preserved fossils (scientists can see what some had for last meals), it takes a catastrophic event. Creation science models of the Genesis Flood provide far better explanations than secular Just-So Stories. In fact, Flood geology here goes beyond fossilization and explains landforms as well. In the grand scheme of evolution, the legs of land-based animals developed

Genesis Flood Geology and the Grand Canyon

Image
When Grand Canyon is mentioned, most people probably know about the one in Arizona. There are other canyons that could be considered grand, but they are hidden away — under Greenland ice and others are underwater . They may be grander, but people can visit the famous one. Secularists say it refutes creation science Flood geology, assuming uniformitarianism (slow and gradual processes) to claim that it was carved by the Colorado River ( including Wikedpedia ) . Interesting that they cling to that story even though it denies science. Colorado River and Grand Canyon, US Geological Survey (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) "Okay, smart guy, how do creationists explain how it formed?" The global Genesis Flood provides the best explanation for the evidence. That statement is unsatisfyingly simple as an explanation. In fact, creationists are divided on how it formed. One view is that water built up during the Ice Age in lakes, then the natural dams breached. From

Collapsing Arches Make Darwin Sad

Image
Dust-to-Darwin evolution requires huge amounts of time, and secular geologists try to provide them. People are assured that Earth is billions of years old. They protect their belief system includes arguing from presuppositions and neglecting alternative explanations for observed data. Landforms that are supposed to be ancient have been collapsing — often dramatically. We recently saw how there have been large collapses of the cliffs of Dorset . Places in the American Southwest that were supposed to be millions of years old, and expected to last millions of years more, have crashed. Metate Arch, Devil's Garden, Flickr / Ken Lund ( CC BY-SA 2.0 ) The guiding principle of secular geology is uniformitarianism : slow 'n' gradual processes over long periods. When asked about the causes of erosion, people will mention water and wind. Something that may not come to mind is lightning. I reckon severe weather, with heavy rainfall and lighting, is difficult to factor into secular pr

Solving the Mysteries of Devils Tower

Image
People seem to taunt the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2) with names like  Devil's Tombstone in New York, Devil's Soup Bowl in Michigan, Oregon's  Devil's Punchbowl , and so on.  (Then there are sports teams.) A more interesting location is Devils Tower National Monument . It is a sacred place to Indians, and the English name was probably a mistranslation of the Lakota . The apostrophe was dropped in the official name, but people still tend to put it in there anyway . Devils Tower is quite large, and it has baffled geologists for a long time. Devils Tower, USGS / Carol Wippich (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) The first big mystery is its formation, and another mystery is why it is standing there all by its lonesome. Then those huge columns that are fracturing and seen in debris at the base. If it were millions of years old, the tower should be a pile of rubble. Secularists won't like this, but geology incorporating the Genesis Flo

Creation Science Geology and Cave Formation

Image
My father would have been 100 years old today. According to the consensus of secular geologists, slow and gradual processes observed today explain what happened in the distant past. Even though this view is saturated with difficulties, it is still held by the majority of secular geologists and evolutionists. Uniformitarian puts a smile on Darwin's face because evolution needs deep time. Secularists believe the formation of caves and those decorative effects inside refute biblical creation science and the Genesis Flood. They conveniently ignore that the same charges they make against creationists also work against their own paradigms. Secularists also work from a serious lack of understanding of the Flood and subsequent Ice Age, preferring prejudicial conjecture instead. Acids occur naturally, and it is thought that caves can form by carbonic acid, but this idea does not work. Their explanations cannot overcome obstacles. Were caves formed in the past by sulfuric acid? That seems to

The Real Story of the Petrified Forest

Image
When I was in town yesterday for supplies, I bumped into Lotta Lyez and Al Buehterawl from the Darwin Ranch. Al was excited about a trip to Arizona, since the foreman Rusty Swingset allowed him extra time to visit Petrified Forest National Park . Al said it was breathtaking. He started to tell about its features, but Lotta cut him off to repeat what he told her earlier. It was the same thing in many ways that we hear from deep time proponents about gradual processes interspersed with volcanic activity. The truth is quite different. Giant petrified logs, Petrified Forest National Park, NPS / Hallie Larsen (usage does not imply endorsement) Not only are there thousands of logs that have turned to stone, but numerous colors that inspire people to say the place looks painted. Supposedly, forests were knocked over and were turned to stone over long ages. Also, there are layers of different colors. Those and other details that don't fit explanations from uniformitarian geology. Creation

Columbia River Basalts and the Genesis Flood

Image
In architecture, entablature  is that area above the columns and below the roof , often found in classical buildings. The word has a slightly similar meaning to geologists. It involves basalts cooling from magma underwater,  forming above what are termed colonnades . This may seem unrelated, but up yonder in the Northwestern (formerly) United States, the  Glacial Lake Missoula flood that carved out the Channeled Scablands  plays a big part in the upcoming discussion. Not only did it make the Channeled Scablands, it revealed some of the volcanic basalt.  Columbia River, Pixabay / kxp13 Before Ice Age floods, there was volcanic activity that formed a flood basalt  that covered a huge area. Clues about the geology and the way lava cooled can be taken from the textures, and indicate that lava was traveling underwater. Entablature and other features in the Columbia Plateau are numerous, so secular geologists cannot plausibly explain what is observed. They should honestly consider geology mo

Amazing Everglades

Image
What comes to mind when someone mentions the Everglades down Florida way? Heat, wetlands, alligators, airboats, birds, sock a little poke sallet to me... Sure, those are some obvious traits, but there is a great deal more to this very large subtropical wilderness and national park . Everglades National Park is an amazing ecosystem, but not just one uniform piece of real estate. There are several systems called sub-biomes . Different critters have been equipped by the Master Engineer to survive, adapt, and thrive there. The geological origin is also quite interesting. Everglades, National Park Service / G. Gardner (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Some of the photographs I've shared on my weblogs included flowers that I later learned were "invasive." They are called that because they're not native to an area and get obnoxious by taking over. They're built to survive. The stories of alligators in New York City sewers are mostly myth. Unfortunatel

Mackinac, the Genesis Flood, and Medical Science

Image
If you took a notion to visit Mackinac Island State Park way up yonder between the peninsulas of Michigan, it would be a hefty drive. Using I-75 from the state capital of Lansing and going in almost a straight line by the map, count on driving 3-1/2 hours one way. You would probably find it worthwhile. Despite spelling discrepancies with -nac and -naw, it is pronounced MACK-i-naw. The island is in view of the huge suspension bridge. A creation geologist can use the physical features to describe stages in the Genesis Flood as well as the Ice Age. Old Fort Mackinac from the pasture (cropped), ca. 1900, Library of Congress People who read biblical creation science material are likely to learn some things about the Genesis Flood, especially since it was not simply rain and the fountains of the great deep. As is observed, there are many megasequences laid down by water, and these span continents. Depositions occurred in stages. At Mackinac Island, some of the first laid down by the Flood w

Enigmatic Clastic Pipes and Flood Geology

Image
Ever see those rocks sticking up, especially in the American Southwest? They vary a great deal in size and are consistently vertical. Those are clastic pipes . Quite a few are found at the Kodachrome Basin State Park , but they exist around the world. Uniformitarian (gradual processes over long periods of time) geologists are baffled by clastic pipes, since clastic rock is comprised of pieces of other rocks that were broken and re-formed. They have several competing speculations on how the pipes formed. Some suggest they also exist on Mars . Clastic pipes at Kodachrome Basin State Park, Pixabay / Aline Dassel Deep-time views are inconsistent with what is observed, and would require some unlikely scenarios in numerous places. (That is, clastic pipes are not a one-off anomaly in a specific region.) Creation geologists agree with their secular counterparts that earthquakes played a part in their formation, but they would have had to have been extremely strong. Also, there is a great dea

The Oldest Rocks Before the Flood

Image
As anyone who has spent even a little bit of time examining biblical creation science knows, we emphasize the Genesis Flood. It explains what is observed in geology far better than uniformitarian (slow and gradual processes over much time) ideas. The Flood also shows that Earth is young, and that God judged the world. What seems to be largely ignored are the oldest rocks that were here before the Flood. You have probably heard of the Cambrian explosion , where fossils of critters appear  fully formed . Before that was the appropriately-named Precambrian. Roaring Brook Falls (NY), Flickr / James St. John ( CC BY 2.0 ) This one is where you can find pre-Flood rocks, and there is a planed (shaved flat) surface that spans the continents. During Creation Week, God made the land on the third day, which probably involved raising it up out of the water. A lot of land, a lot of water, a lot of runoff and erosion. Using biblical chronology, the Flood happened about 1,600 years after creation, s

Yellowstone National Park Flood Catastrophe

Image
Regular readers may have noticed that articles from the Institute for Creation Research about national parks have been featured here. This time, we will look at two of them about various features of Yellowstone National Park. Its 2.2 million acres became protected as the first national park in 1872. People may not know that they are t aking selfies with bison while strolling around  on top of a supervolcano , and magma is three miles below the surface. This is why there are so many geysers and hot springs, including Old Faithful — which erupts a bit more frequently nowadays. Yellowstone caldera, Flickr /  AleGranholm  ( CC BY 2.0 ) Secular geologists throw around millions of years like politicians throw around tax money, but it's because the naturalistic narrative requires it, not evidence. The thermal stuff is is best explained by creation science Genesis Flood geology. The park is unique for its travertine flows, mud pots, hot springs, and canyons. It houses over 10,000 thermal

Explaining Dry Valleys on the Jurassic Coast

Image
Linked below is a technical article dealing with the geology of the Jurassic Coast, but if this child can learn something from it, so can you. Since such articles are written more for people with scientific backgrounds than for folks like us, they contain specialized language. One is geomorphology , the study of changes in land features ( geo and morph ). The predominant word  periglaciation was new to me so I had to look it up . It involves permafrost areas, and uniformitarian (slow and gradual processes over long periods of time) geologists believe that periglaciation, which is the freezing, thawing, and land-shaping that occurred around glaciers, may have formed the dry valleys of the Jurassic Coast. Jurassic Coast, Dorset; Pixabay /  Roman Grac Dry valleys are dry. That is, no rivers flow through them. Secular scientists expect rivers to carve out valleys over long periods of time. They have twenty possible explanations for the dry valleys. Periglaciation is the one they like bes
